Writing on the Go!

Writing in the hotel room!

Sooo, if you read my Facebook page last week you would know that I said that this month I was going to try to keep myself accountable while I was traveling. On that note, Friday night, at the desk in my hotel room, I DID do some writing in an actual notebook and got up to about eleven lines in before bed (I know, I know, eleven lines is not much, but I did write!). I made it one day out of two, but I can still say– while being away from the precious draft of my novel– #writewherever !

Here are three tips I could advise the writer on the go:

  1. Take a notebook with you on your travels. Who knows when you’ll have some free time– during a quiet half hour on the beach, park bench, etc.? If you have that big tote bag with you, tote your notebook and writing utensils along with it.
  2. Simply MAKE TIME. I didn’t have much time before bed Friday night but I still got my (approximately) eleven lines in. If you’re in a hotel room, that desk is in there for a reason. USE it.
  3. Have fun with it! This is your chance to maybe draft scenes that are out of order, rewrites of scenes you’ve already written, etc. It’ll find its place later. For now, just write and make this your chance for your characters to go on a vacation from their strict schedule in your plot!

Have fun, writers! Enjoy the weather and bring your writing with you so you can #writewherever!
